Remembering Karl

I would prefer to NOT do another one of these anytime soon as one in the past year is already one too many, but this one is for Karl (left)...

Karl loved just about everything about skateboarding. Skateboarding street, skateboarding bowl, skateboard stickers, skateboard graphics, grip tape art, skateboarding photos, making skateboarding videos and getting up at the crack of dawn to go skateboarding... just to name a few.

Karl liked t-shirts...

...even in yellow.

If you've ever been to the Forks on a weekend before noon, you've likely seen Karl skateboarding away in the hot sun. He'd be wearing his favourite kind of t-shirt which was none!

R.I.P. Karl Harder. You will be missed!

Dogtown to Winnipeg

So I met Venice Beach transplant Steve Primo last month. I say transplant, because he currently resides in Winnipeg, but has Dogtown blood running through his veins.

I requested a photo during our bowl session. He was down. He warned me “I haven’t skated in four months”.

Steve Primo is a grandfather (in the literal sense). If his only “excuse” for being potentially “rusty” is “I haven’t skated in four months” and not “I’ve never skated this bowl before”, "I’m almost fifty years old!” or… “I’M A GRANDPA!”… Well then learn something from this guy! Thrash or be thrashed!

Want to learn more about Primo? So do we! Stay tuned for the full story in P&S Zine Issue 3.5 coming soon!

Black Sabbath in low res

I recently read an article regarding cameras vs. phone cameras. The point the author of the article was trying to make was if the moment matters, use a real camera leave the cell phone for making phone calls.

Tonight we went where the camera was not welcome and most of the memories were captured in the mind. However, I was still able to cop these photos that my wife took with "the phone".

Tony Iommi. Black Sabbath...

...with Ozzy!

You get the idea. It was awesome! They say some things are worth waiting for. Well it had been 29 years since I heard Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath on 8-Track for the first time...so I waited and it was worth it!

La Lucha

This week's throwback is from the "La Lucha" series that was on display at the now defunct "Barber Shop" Gallery back in 2005.

The original was shot on B&W 35mm film and hand printed on 16x20" RC paper.

East vs. West

So I was in Selkirk, MB the other day shooting a photo or two of my friend Cassandra. It had just finished raining. I was about to shoot facing west when all of a sudden I noticed a crew approaching from the east. I had to stop what I was doing of course to capture this...

That's that!
