Nice people, doing nice things

“Please Donate So Kids Can Skate” was the header on a letter that was brought to my attention last week via e-mail through a friend. The letter came from a local 9 year old skater named Carter. Carter pointed out that the new YMCA North End Wellness Centre in Winnipeg offers a basketball court, play structure, youth workout equipment and an indoor skateboard park open 7 nights a week to those under 16 for the cost of $5/year

While he was skating at the facility he noticed a number of kids that would love to skate, but don’t have the means to a skateboard or helmet. In an attempt to remedy the situation Carter took it upon himself to approach local skate shops with his concerns and has built and dropped off bins to collect used skateboard equipment and safety gear etc…

So far he has bins set up at the following shops:
Green Apple on Corydon, SK8 at the Forks, King’s on Portage and West 49 at Polo Park.
Please show your support!

In the spirit of giving roommate # 1 organized a vegan bake sale to help raise almost $500 to donate to Haiti relief.

Last but not least, an honorable mention needs to go out to The Albert Diner owners/operators and staff for not only hosting the above mentioned bake sale, but for re-opening and maintaining another Winnipeg option of places to go for vegan eats in general!
