Winnipeg winters may have a reputation for keeping you honest. You could find a warmer climate to spend your winters, but for most people that's not a practical option. You can throw in the towel and curl up on the couch with skateboarding video games or the latest skate DVD, but neither would come close to scratching the itch to skate clean and dry concrete in the up and coming spring and summer. So here in Winnipeg if were not waiting for the 1st above zero temperature to scrape down some ice and ride a section of bowl at an outdoor park or ride the first rail that doesn't have a snowbank at the bottom of it, we are more than likely to end up skating the always reliable year round indoor skate park The Edge, skating in someone's basement or taking your chances in your friendly neighborhood indoor parkade.
The Edge has scheduled programming for different age groups etc..., but also rents out 3 hour sessions on Sundays. Over the last few years we have had no problem gathering a small crew to help cover the $150 rental cost. This year we booked all of our Sunday's in advance for the painful winter months.
