From dusk till ...right about now.

Kendal, Mat and David. Permanent address: the bowl at The Forks

It's that time of year...the sun disappears fast! This week has brought us t-shirt weather though, so who can complain?

Benches

So it's the end of a day of less skating, more shooting. I was setting up a shot in front of these benches when a sudden flow of memories pours in to my brain of skating these same benches two decades ago. It's amazing to me that these benches are covered with not just skateboarding wear and tear, but twenty plus years of memories for so many people in so many different ways.

Earlier in the day I spied with my little eye TeeJae rolling down Broadway.

Since I'm traveling in reverse through the happenings in my day I'd like to point out that I made a new acquaintance today. Making new friends always makes it a good day.

No excuses!

There should be no excuses. Two days of rain, overtime Friday and Saturday should slow me down, but not cause such a large gap between posts!

Here's a quick archive from last weeks shooting. Josh Thorvaldson FS feeble @ Selkirk.

I will be out and about skating and shooting today!

Sunday part II

So Saturday I was a bit bummed that I missed out on Taylor Bray back flips etc... and while skating and shooting at The Plaza on Sunday morning who rolls up, but the man himself.... The same guy who just took first place this summer in the Element Make it Count series. Time to redeem myself for missing Saturday's fun.

Taylor happens to mention that The Plaza at The Forks is his favorite park. I ask him "in Manitoba or in all of North America?". He replies "anywhere". Solid answer.

Taylor Bray backside 180 on the carpet.

The crew from Texas heads over to Komenda Skate Park.

A bonus to the visit from Taylor and Ke'Chaud was having the opportunity to meet Carter Dennis from Skaters for Public Skateparks.

A sweet SPS shirt.

Then back to Selkirk to beat the sunset and skate it one more time before the crew skipped town.

One simply amazing day!

Sunday part I

Caught up with Brennan "first try" Slater this morning at The Plaza for a good 15 minutes worth of shooting in two locations. That's all it takes with the "first try" guy.

Gap to backside board slide on the double four set.

A beautiful September Sunday!

After a lunch break hooked up down the street for some flat rail action.

Keiran got in on the 50-50's as well.

Stay tuned for part II...

Selkirk Skate Park

I almost missed the opening of the Selkirk Skate Park today for two reasons:

1. I only heard about this event through a phone call from a friend and soon realized it was well known, but yet the most low profile opening I've ever heard of. No blog posts or internet buzz to my knowledge.

2. I promised a friend to help him out by covering his Sports Illustrated type gig at Crescentwood at the same time the opening was underway.

So we miss the official opening, but get there just as the sun is setting to get an idea of the park and get some runs in. Note: Lights! Not functional until Monday I was told.

Bumped in to Travis from Oak Bank checking out the new park.

Keiran found himself some fans.

Shane was also there all day visiting from Oak Bank.

Apparently I missed the infamous Taylor Bray back flip. Daaang. There's always instant replay...

Familiar, friendly and even funny faces.

Took a little trip to Komenda skate park yesterday evening. Had a great session, witnessed some even greater sessions (Jason Crolly and little Alec Ross to name a couple) and broke out the camera to capture some of the celebreities in the skate park.

The afro-sensational Ricardo

Last, but not least ...the front man of now defunct "No Goods" (O.G. Charleswood skate punk at it's best).

Free Hugs!

This past Saturday afternoon I found some no-strings-attached free hugs.

Had a fun midnight photo session Saturday night in the Exchange District...

...the holder of the tripods.

A post pancake party mid morning skate session on Sunday was underway. Some people gauge stages of their kids growth with little ticks on the wall. I notice growth when kick turn turns to 5-0 and 5-0 turns to 50-50 etc....

Waiting...

...still waiting and now obviously bored.

...and finally the bearer of deadly looks is good to go! (I wasn't really waiting that long...just bored and documenting the 7-11 parking lot and my surroundings).

Back in the Exchange for some...ART.

Some craziness...

...and some supermodel-ling.

That's that!

Friday night, Front Row Centre and beyond...

Opening night...

The set up...

...the preview

...the art.

Good friends abound.

Inside Out represent!

The last of Caitlin's delicious cupcakes.

The "A" girls. Ailsa and The Assistant.

...that wrapped up a fun opening. A shout out to all the people that showed their support. A big thanks goes out to Reed Oslund for coming up with the idea of the show in the first place and bringing it together. Ailsa Dyson, Caitlin Schlamb and Cheyenne Rae for presenting their amazing images and of course the wonderful and charming Serena and The Edge Gallery for providing a great venue to host the show. The show runs for 2 weeks! Check it out!

Still enough time to check out the Betty Mag release party...

$5 cover charge + $7 magazine + 1 cup +1 skateboard = art

Dave from Big Woop checking out the scene...or maybe he is the scene. You decide.

It was a huge deal to me to finally meet one of the best radio morning show DJ's of all time! She saved me from the wickedness of a broken CD player and the common blabber of FM radio shows on the drive to work while she used to run a show on 92.9 Kick FM. She's no longer on the air...92.9 no longer gets any air time on my ride to work.

Chelsea and Ali!

Find the coolest dude in the room hands down and I'll take your picture with him. Done!
