Leaders of the Pack

Drove by these dudes on the way home from the skate park last night. Stopped to request an impromptu portrait session. They obliged.

Kyle and Mark.

Humans of Winnipeg - Lone Wolf Edition

Met a friendly man named Lyle Tobacco last night. He briefly told us about attending a residential school growing up. He was happy to share more recent news about reuniting with his daughter that he hadn't seen in sixteen years.

His lighthearted words of advice for fellow residents of Winnipeg:"Look both ways before crossing the street!"

Public Service Announcement

Dear restless youth of Charleswood,

If you're going to insist on tagging and spray painting up your local skate park, please practice somewhere else first and come back when you have enough skill to lay down something worthwhile to look at.

On second thought, don't even bother coming back. You are a hindrance and it costs money to maintain a skate park. Money that is better spent on actual maintenance and not graffiti removal.

In the meantime... Will Power. Frontside indy.

What D'Ya See

The "Who's in Charge" 7" in the record collection can now be complimented by the Stretch Marks "What D'Ya See" 12" thanks to our stop at Extreme Noise a week or so ago in Minneapolis. Sometimes you have to look deep for some of Winnipeg's finest punk rock gems!

All flights cancelled

A pigeon greeted everyone at the front door at work today. Possible victim of a window collision? Maybe. Nine hours later, still hanging around.

21 Gears

So I decided to take out the PS Zine "mobile unit" a couple of days ago. The mobile unit basically consists of my pedal bike and trailer loaded with camera and skateboard gear. Not too far in to the journey I passed a man on his bike and I could swear he was "talking to me"! What would Travis Bickle do? Clarify if he was indeed talking to me...

Mr. Saddlebags: Mumble, mumble, mumble.
Me: Pardon me?
Mr. Saddlebags: Mumble,TRUMPET, mumble.
Me: What?
Mr. Saddlebags: I said why don't you stick a trumpet up your nose and blow it out?
Me: WHY ARE YOU TALKING TO ME?
Mr. Saddlebags: I'm not, I'm talking to myself.
Me: Well, carry on then.
Mr. Saddlebags: Thanks! I will.
Me: ??????? (...and I pedaled in to the distance.)

First stop... Sunny St. James.

Second stop... Skatepark West. Skatepark West crew.

The injured Mr. Parker/lighting assistant.

Third stop... Charleswood.

DESTROY THE INTERNET

Analog zine from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada set out to destroy the internet? We can back that. Of course if you'd like to learn more about them, they can be found on the internet itself here.

p.s. Beastie Boy Mike D is the guest editor for the latest edition of Monster Children (that's the out of focus orange thing in the above photo). It's jam packed full of awesome as usual.

Trungry

Yesterday was the second last day of our official vacation. Back in our own town. Back to thinking about food and the places we never eat at due to the constraints of the average work day. The decision... Broadway!

The Poutine King

Garden poutine with tofu and veggie gravy; hold the cheese please.

Veggie dog options at the hot dog cart.

Table for one?

Falafel Queen.

Would you like a side of evangelism with that?

Until next time...

The staples

Sure... pancakes are a great start to a day full of skateboarding, but nothing goes as good with skateboarding as punk rock! That's why we always include the staples of life when we visit Minneapolis. Punk rock and skateboards. The original P&S!

First stop was Extreme Noise.

Volunteer run...

...for twenty years!

Who doesn't love a wall of vinyl?

Some foreshadowing for our next stop...

Stud-bot.

The skateboarding portion of this visit was spent at Steve Nesser's Familia Skateshop

To stick with the theme of punk rock and skateboards, Familia backs my point!

Such awesome shop boards!

Dennis... also awesome!

That's that!
