Shake Junt Smash n' Grab Tour

The Shake Junt Smash n' Grab Tour landed in Winnipeg yesterday. Weather was questionable, but the eminent storm seemed to pass over the city without harm.

I can admire anyone who shows up to a park they've never set foot in before and without even taking the time to size it up, they thrown down mean and fast.

Lizard King. Boom!

The rain came...

The sun came back out to play.

The "King" mingling with "the people" and showing his support for the team. One very down to earth skater.

A rare sighting of the assistant.

That's that.

Rapid Fire

"Wielding the axe comes the one culmination that's always seemed certain to bring down the curtain on greed" - Judas Priest

I'm a bit late with the above picture as I should have posted it last Saturday as it was taken 20 years prior of that exact day at Victoria Beach.

In other news...It is true, Judas Priest did perform on American Idol this week. Yikes.

The Mall

As I recently mentioned, I bought a second scanner to enable me to scan the film I've been pumping out of the Mamiya. When I finally catch up on processing some more film I'll be printing and scanning like a madman I'm sure. In the meantime why not hit the archives from a whole new angle? The medium format archives!

This one is for those who grew up in St. Charles, Westwood or Crestview and beyond (and you're older than 12). Whether it was the food court, Sam the Recordman, Coles books or the bus stop. One time or other, you've probably been to...

...no one else wanted to play.

So now he plays each and every day with his broken toy, but when his toy turned out to be his brain no one else wanted to play-SNFU

So...in the meantime it's taco time!

Platform Skate now stocking P/S shirts!

Good news for those living in or passing through Portage La Prairie... Platform Skate is now stocking our shirts! We got a good vibe during our last visit so it felt like a good fit for us.

They have our first five designs to choose from. Check out the link to see them all.

Steve assured us that he's serious about selling shirts! He showed us the last shirt he had left from a local Portage shirt designer "Scam".

The seriousness may have just been for dramatic effect. Steve knows how to crack a smile. We saw one. Buy some shirts. We'll all smile!

Hate Your Friends

"You got problems you can't solve, it's enough to make you start to hate your friends"-The Lemonheads

The above photo is unrelated to The Lemonheads or that song, but when the song popped in my head I thought the picture would be a fun fit. What do I know? ...it's late.

Ped X-ing!

A little voice in my head (Mr. French) told me I should check out this spot, bring someone that can huck a huge ollie (Grady) and my camera.... Done!

Cousins vs. Boon

Today felt a lot like summer. A perfect day for a much needed brain vacation. I spent part of this summer-like brain vacation day eating dinner outside.

Number one son/partner in crime was asking to go to Boon Burger for this outside dinner. I posed the question Boon or Cousin's? Given the option, Cousin's won this round.

The Cousins veggie burger.

I'm not going to deny being fussy when it comes to burgers. I prefer the lettuce, tomato and other goodies on top. It's hit or miss which way it gets served from the different employees. Today was a miss...so I gave it the ol' flip and and got to work.

Delicious as always. The End.

Photo opportunities

From time to time when I'm driving I see the craziest things and I wish I was walking down the street with my camera instead of driving with it in the trunk so I could document said craziness. Here's a top three list from the last two days of things I wish I had pictures of cause a quick description just won't do them any justice:

1. I saw a dude towing a fishing boat (motor attached) on a trailer behind his mountain bike going down Valour Road yesterday.
2. I saw a shirtless man walking down Main Street tonight towards some other dudes. He was carrying a pole over his shoulders looking like he was ready to brawl. Street sign...still attached to the pole!
3. Moments later I saw one of the rockabilly dudes from Winnipeg's Farrell Bros. zipping down the street on a BMX keeping it real with his giant pompadour in full effect. Amazing.

To make up for not having my camera during the above mentioned photo-ops I met up with some friends to shoot a fun Sunday evening in the park.

Introducing Emily.

Emily is buddies with Grady. No introductions necessary for Grady.

Emily's got a new tattoo.

Emily has a very rad belt buckle.

Emily rocks some pretty cool socks.

I shot tonight primarily on B&W film, these are just the fun highlights from the test lighting shots!

Anyone could have started chanting "Emily and Grady sitting in a tree"...

...not a chance!

$10 Parking

I have seen many complaints lately with regards to how crappy the weather is this week. I try not to say too much despite the fact that it's not skateboarding friendly, because I'm well aware that many Manitobans don't really care about how miserable it is outside as they're too busy trying to save their houses from flood water.

I try not to complain about the gas price soaring up to $1.30/litre, because I'm well aware that many of the people that complain about the price per litre on gas also pay $2+/litre for bottled water when that stuff comes out of the tap for pennies a glass.

I try not to complain too much because I'm well aware that when the roommate asked if I'd drive him to the airport that I'd jump at the chance, because I have no issues with spending $10 to park at the airport to eat veggie burgers and play Galaga!

I've been told fast food will kill us...but a stacked veggie burger on a Friday night...

...and a side salad? I think we'll survive.

I've been crowned champion of this 1982 classic in the past, but tonight the Galaga carpal tunnel syndrome was kicking in and I couldn't advance past second place! Dang!

"That deaf, dumb and blind kind sure plays a mean pinball"-The Who

There aren't that many arcades left, so the airport is sort of an oasis of pinball and mostly old school type video games.

My son urged I admit defeat publicly 2-0.

After our two hour party at the airport we had to tend to some "lowrider Doctor" business and we worked on finding and fixing the one leaky spoke out of one hundred on my fiend's rim.

Some artwork was made...we called it a night.

It's currently Saturday and sunny. Pancakes have been consumed...

...so it's time to get outside!

Back up plan

When more behind the scenes work is going on than being out and about at the same time blogger shuts down for a spell it's time to resort to a good back up plan to make up for a lack of posts...

Breaking news...

Thanks to the wonderful staff at Photo Central being well equipped for so many different photography needs, I decided to take the plunge and grab an Epson V600 the other day when I went their to re-up some chemicals.

This will enable me to scan both prints and the the medium format negatives from my Mamiya C220. This of course allows me to keep you up to date on what's going on in the darkroom all that much quicker. Everyone wins!

Fountain of Love

I've mentioned being a fan of local ex-radio D.J. Miss Miller in the past. I've also mentioned being a collector of magazines such as National Geographic. If you combine Miss Miller's artistic eye and her own stash of National Geographic magazine's you get this...

Check out her blog Culture Couture Collage for more!

Get high, stay high...

...the P/S way.

In between the rain showers yesterday there was plenty of air time at the bowl from the crew and friends.

Mr. Transition (Will Power) keeping it large and clean.

I just met this guy Brad. He told me how he broke his knee in this same bowl a couple of years ago. Apparently he's back on the horse.

Kyle's back for a spell after spending his time at the Hastings Bowl out west. So it makes sense to find him at The Plaza.

Will is envisioning an Epsom salt bath...

...because everything comes at a price.

Bold choice of coloured laces.

Raw ankles. How delicious.

Chop Shop MmmmmmcKay

Fred invited me to come down to his shop last night. While he was waiting for Zakk to show up so they could commence their Friday night bike build/hang out...I grabbed some pics for the motorcycle lovers.

Fred and his Triumph. I would like to see this one finished this summer!

Obviously the lowrider in me gives this O.G. metal flake tank two thumbs up.

White grips... best choice for grease monkeys!

The drag bike.

The end.
