We're just a minor threat

While working on piece for P&S Zine Issue III the other day, I came across some amazing gig flyers adorning the basement walls belonging to a photographer we'll be featuring in this next issue.

A single idea came to mind... If I ever stumbled across a time machine, set the date to the day this went down, buckle in and press go!

This one is for Ryan P. Not obscure, just awesome.

Down and sort of out...

First off...to the valued visitors of our blog who drop by on a regular basis, we thank you for your patience! It's been a rough week. The star of this blog will be a spectator only with regards to both soccer and skateboarding for the next little while...

In other news, yours truly has been banned from skateboarding for the next 4-6 weeks and all other physical activities including lugging around camera equipment. Doctor's orders! The good news is I am sure I can find someone that will lug the equipment around for me as soon as I've graduated from the "rest and do nothing" portion of my post operation healing good times party.

There's even more good news. We do our best to be positive around here, so why not focus on the bright side? P&S Zine Issue III is closer to completion every day! We'll use our down time wisely and catch up the work required to pull this off. We'll keep you updated on that and whatever else comes our way in the meantime!

Staring in to the sun...

What are you staring at?

Solar eclipse...no big deal.

This guy is prepared for anything and then some.

In other news... I think there must be a spike in automobile insurance sales on May Long Weekend, cause it's time to knock off the cob webs and turn your storage insurance in to road ready insurance.

Amazing.

Yes this came to mind... "I can't take it no more, I'm buggin' out!" -Warzone.

Khartum Temple represent!

This is the end.

Back to normal?

When they opened up The Edge Skatepark earlier this year it was awesome and all that, but something was missing...

The white walls are slowly, but surely disappearing...

That's why this shirt makes sense...

It's nice outside, but even if that's the case...spring session times are available with reduced fees just so ya know!

Time for change...

I'm not switching shoe brands...

...just shoes! Way overdue like usual. Shoes just aren't high on the priority list like they should be. Trying out the C1rca/Santa Cruz Guzman.

That's that!

The shut out!

We're not always skateboarding and I don't always bring my camera with me. Thankfully "soccer mom" Sheri caught the action during the shut out in tonight's game.
Of course 1/4000 of a second earlier the ball was still in the frame, but then it exploded ...obviously!

Day of rest

Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest. That's never the case, but it almost felt like there was too much to get done on this particular Sunday. Swap meet, birthday party, Mother's Day lunch, errands, skateboarding and more. All good stuff, then I realized I shouldn't be surprised as this day has panned out very similar in the past.

This day started out at the swap meet.

Lot's of cool stuff abound.

Join the Army?

Pic-a-Pop crate full of goodies.

What ya' got under the hood?

Super old school.

Not just cars type stuff...

That wrapped that up.

Somewhere in the hustle of our day we met up with Brendon Sanderson so we could get up to no good...

That's all you get for now. More on that story later...

In an instant

Listen up people! I still shoot 35mm and 120mm film as well as shooting with a digital SLR (which would already be considered an ancient camera model by many). I resist the internet, but I use it every day. I love to see photos on walls as well as in the pages of magazines and books. I cherish the thought of holding a photo in your hand longer than you'd give attention to an image on a screen and that's what drives us to put out P&S Zine.

P&S resisted using twitter and having a facebook page, but we decided our audience would appreciate it so we got on that just for you. I was told instagram was wonderful, but to be honest I prefer the not so instant ...so my square photos still come from a twin lens reflex medium format film camera. That's just me, I know...I suck.

However... we aren't here to convince you that instant is bad. It's "of this age". So "the apprentice" (number one son) has stepped up to the plate and he'll be in charge of any instagram business going on around here. It will be from the eyes of an eight year old, but this kid will feed your instagram fix with a P&S perspective and beyond...so follow him for the good, the bad, the skateboarding, the silly and the Sponge Bob.

On a roll

Most of the time I'll go though a roll of film in mere minutes, but once in awhile a roll of film can stay in my camera for days, weeks or months. Those rolls are the most exciting as I often forget what what was shot at the beginning and in the middle.

When it comes to film my go to is Ilford Delta 400 B&W. Over the years I've gone through phases and had some favourite film speeds... 50, 100 and 3200 come to mind of what I'd shoot on a regular basis. Why I would EVER have a roll of Kodak 1000 speed film colour film in my camera is beyond me, maybe it was free? Regardless, that was the roll in my camera at some point back in 1990? I'm not sure if it was in there for two days, two weeks or two months, but there's a little bit of everything all from the same roll.

My first skateboarding hero... Harry Chan! ...captured at Portage Place.

Down in James' or Kuba's basement with Clayton during a jam session during the "Orange Juice" era.

Hanging out with the Winnipeg Straight Edge crew (and Nicole) on Portage Ave across the street from what is now the MTS Centre.

I'm quite confident the film ended there as I have a another photo taken a few feet away on a completely different roll of film. That was probably the first and last roll of 1000 speed Kodak film I ever shot. That's that!

Get the shot!

Here's the breakdown of the majority of our trips to skate parks:

First we skateboard...then we find a photo subject/victim like...Grady.

Then we test the light.

Then we take the shot!

...and That's That!

Wake the dead.

No we didn't just come from a Comeback Kid show...

...but we did notice that on the wall while we were visiting one of the local skaters that we'll be featuring in P/S Zine Issue III.

We were there to grab some of the last photos to finish up the piece that we started working on well over 6 months ago.

We're stoked!

You can take the girl out of Quebec...

...but you can't take the Quebec out of the girl? This would explain why our friend Mélissa likes to throw Poutine Parties.

The basics for a successful Poutine Party? Simple... Invite your friends.

Let them know how you'll feel if they don't show up.

Make sure you dust and proudly display your Juggalo collectibles before the guests arrive.

Make loads of French Fries!

Make sure you have enough Poutine for everyone!

That includes the vegans!

...Should you choose to invite them of course.

That's that!
