The neglected

Every photographer has piles of neglected photos I'm sure. Somedays when you're finished a shoot, you grab what you needed at the time and move on. I come across these neglected photos from time to time when I am working on different projects, doing archival work etc... Sometimes they're beautiful images, other times it's just plain nostalgia and interesting subject matter to me. camnikkel.com was started in the first place to share what I've been holding on to for twenty plus years. There will always be more to share. Here are a few samples. Enjoy!

I'm not even sure who his is. Probably the reason it was passed over the first time around.

These next few shots were originally shot on Kodak slide film. They were never slide mounted, still sitting in the original strips tucked away in an envelope for close to twenty years. When I originally scanned them a few years ago I gave up as they were pitted, scratched, dusty etc... I never use the "digital ice" on my Nikon 5000ED neg scanner because it doesn't work with black and white. I rarely scan colour images. Today I tried them again using the digital ice and I was blown away. Slides that looked like they were dragged behind my skateboard in the rain, brought back to life! Super stoked.

Friday night part I

This particular Friday consisted of a birthday party, hanging out with friends at a coffee shop, visiting a friend's house and some desicion making to continue on watching hardcore bands at War on Music or watching The Ex-Girlfriends play at "Zombie Farewell" at the Albert.

I'll start by saying this...watching the 2010 Olympic ceremonies was an option amongst many other things to do on a Friday night for some, but while the sold out straight edge kids are drinking 40's and dancing to hip-hop, the hipsters are mastering their scenes and the bar stars are tripping on the ice in their high heels while walking down Albert Street headed for the clubs...some of Winnipeg's most dedicated skateboarders are getting busy doing what else...but skateboarding on a chilly February Friday night in Winnipeg.

Test Drive

I was given a chance to test drive this Canon 7 Leica Screw Mount Rangefinder made between 1961-1965

equipped with a 50mm 1.4 lens

I shot some portraits with a roll of Delta 400 and the results were amazing. I will admit to never being a fan of anything Canon (not even the photcopier at work), but I fell in love with this camera! I shot a roll of Delta 400 a few months back with a Voigtländer and enjoyed the results much more from the Canon 7. I will note that it wasn't an "apple to apple" comparison as the lens I was using on the Voigtländer was too wide for the rangefinder adapter, thus only being able to focus by distance which can be challenging.

If you'd like to see the results of ths portraits I shot with the Canon 7, please e-mail me. In the meantime, I documented a visit of "Peg Bundy" with the Canon

In case you didn't know...

I try to remain quite neutral when it comes to supporting local skate shops (all except for one that I won't even mention because even negative advertising is still advertising) because I know they all are good at what they do in their own special ways.

I have to make an exception today because as I am a fan of the 8.5" deck, I understand the pain of finding them stocked on the shelves of some of the local skate shops from time to time as it isn't a popular size to stock as it is understandably a less desirable size compared to the sizes used by the masses.
